Who Turned Out the Lights?

Our main goal at Energy Game Changers this semester is to provide fun and educational resources that both students and educators will love. The activity on this page offers a stimulating, hands-on lesson for K-2 students to experience together in the classroom. It’s a great way to challenge students through hands-on learning while aiding teachers with easy-to-use, standards-aligned resources.

In this activity, K-2 students will immerse themselves in a “blackout” experience where the lights are out and all electrical equipment is turned off. They will consider how they use electricity every day and what their daily lives might be like if they didn’t have electricity.

This classroom lesson includes critical thinking questions to follow up on the students’ experience and connect it with the educational content in the live in-school show. A similar activity can be done at home with students’ families, making this available as both an in-class lesson and a take-home exercise.
