Our main goal at Energy Game Changers this semester is to provide fun and educational resources that both students and educators will love. The activity on this page offers a stimulating, hands-on lesson for 3rd-5th grade students to experience together in the classroom. It’s a great way to challenge students through hands-on learning while aiding teachers with easy-to-use, standards-aligned resources.
In this activity, students will use basic engineering to create an insulated container that minimizes the loss of heat energy. Using a thermos and other easy-to-find supplies, students will analyze what materials work well as insulation and understand the importance of retaining heat energy – takeaways with numerous real-world applications in the world of STEM and energy conservation.
The lesson also includes critical thinking questions to follow up on the students’ experience and connect it with the educational content in the live in-school show. It’s a perfect add-on to lessons about science, engineering, heat and energy.
When you request a free Energy Kit through the My Energy Kit program, your family can create real conservation impacts in your own community. When enough families become energy game changers, we can all take steps to protect and preserve our planet.
Requesting an Energy Kit also helps your school win grand prizes of up to $2,500!
